Dear Client,
Further to the advice and assistance I have provided, I am writing with a summary of joint discovery.
Since 2005 I have been working in the legal advice sector providing advice in debt, housing and welfare benefits law.
I have had the privilege in dealing in the truth of society and found that what the media keep telling us is an opinion that assists in striping society of its strength and empowerment.
Over the past 7 years I have had the honor of being let into the lives of over 1400 people. Most of whom I have found are just scared of taking steps to improve their lives due to the unnecessary complexity that our society has created.
With my main role being to explain and unpick these complexities I began to find a cycle of dependancy within our culture. In essence the free advice sector has become a filter for the public and private sectors, who prefer to not believe the individual without the backing of an impartial sponsor.
I entered into this work to enable and empower the most vulnerable people in society. However, it seem that these people are being left at the end of the queue as the more capable are now accessing advice services purely on the direction of an authority that needs an impartial sponsor.
In the beginning I valued the outcomes that where achieved for individuals, but found the bigger picture was that of a overworked sector that had limited influence and resource in changing an individuals view on their ablities to self empower. Instead funding for the sector forces agencies to meet criteria, fix the problem not the person, and if there is time, deal with the policy that causes the issue.
With the advice sector growing more dependent on central government funding that demands more service for less money. People working in the sector are pushed to see the clients as numbers as this helps emotionally cope with the pressure applied by funding targets. Failure results in closure of needed services and loss of employment for people with highly specialised knowledge and skills.
Personally I am pleased this has happened as it made me realize that my skills lie in dealing with people, not statistics or clients, but people.
Leaving this unrelenting cycle that of the modern advice sector, will allow me to focus my skills and energy on helping truly empower individuals rather than hold up a industry that needs problems to survive. When problems are attached to people, over time the lines can be blurred.
Rather than blur these lines I have decided to take my own advice( something we should all do more of) and walk away from something that was not satisfying my soul and re-affirm my positive genuine regard for people that has diminished over 7 years in this sector.
I would like to thank all of the people I have managed to meet over my career in this sector. With the privilege of connecting with you I managed to constantly develop myself into a something that resembles a fully functioning and empowered human being.
Maybe, our paths will cross again when the world realizes that by only letting go of our internal fears will true empowerment be found within each other and society.
Finally, I am please that never again will I have to speak to “a client” but instead be prepared to engage with people on a human level.
Thank you for the lessons you have provided and I wish you well for now and the future.
Warm Regards
Karl
